Body Contouring Plastic Surgery
Body contouring surgery involves several techniques, including liposuction and direct surgical removal of unwanted excess skin and fat. Many patients find that after childbearing the abdominal wall area has resulting loose skin and muscles, which can be very readily addressed with "tummy tuck" techniques. For other patients, liposuction may be the only technique needed to improve areas of fat excess, especially when there is not a great deal of loose skin. Dr. Lettieri utilizes a "modified tummy tuck" approach for patients who have slight degrees of lower abdominal skin excess and fat excess to help minimize scars and to allow most patients to return home the same day.
Other areas commonly treated include the upper arms and thighs. Liposuction is often performed along with body contouring in these areas. Each patient needs to receive very individualized consultation to determine the procedure most suitable for them.
A tummy tuck may be helpful if you have loose or sagging abdominal wall skin that is frequently associated with abnormal relaxation of the anterior abdominal wall muscles (often secondary to multiple pregnancies or prior surgery). You may also desire a tummy tuck if you are unable to tighten your abdomen with exercise. A tummy tuck is designed to give the patient a smoother, flatter abdomen. Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia. Mini-abdominoplasties can be performed under sedation and local anesthesia. Most patients are able to return home the day of the procedure.
One of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures is liposuction. It is a technique that can be utilized on virtually all parts of the body to help improve contour. The most commonly treated areas are the neck, abdomen and thighs. When done properly and in the right setting, it is a very safe operation with high patient satisfaction. Dr. Lettieri utilizes conventional and ultrasonic techniques as needed. Liposuction patients most commonly are able to return home on the same day and return to most normal activities within a week.
Liposuction and other techniques can be used to enhance buttocks contours. Buttocks augmentation is occasionally performed as a separate procedure using the patient's own body tissue.
